Two Trips To Urgent Care

Gayle got the kids some plastic plates, glasses, spoons and forks for make-believe.

Saturday night, Andrew ran down the hallway with a plastic spoon in hand. (The rule only applies to scissors, right?)

Andrew fell. (Really?)

Andrew got a cut just outside the eye, below the eyebrow. A lucky break. Could have been much, much worse.

It was then bedtime, but to err on the side of caution, we put both kids into pajamas and headed off for Urgent Care. We got there about 9:20 pm.

The kids had fun running up and down the deserted hallways, but the initial wait wasn't long. The longest wait was in the examination room.

The doctor gave us the option to have stitches. She said it would reduce, but not eliminate the scarring. We chose the much less traumatic glue option. A patch of glue is applied to hold the wound closed and prevent infection. No swimming or baths for five to seven days.

Monday afternoon I arrived at daycare as usual to pick up the kids. There was another incident report waiting for my signature–his third. Andrew fell and hit his head on a table earlier in the day; got a couple of scrapes on the side of his face.

Then I hear a voice. “Andrew’s dad!” I turned and see a staff member holding Andrew, trying to stop the blood dripping down his face from a gash to his forehead. He had just fallen again and hit his forehead on the floor. Incident report number four to sign.

So we’re in the hallway–bloody, crying Andrew, a couple of caretakers and me–as other parents are passing by to take their (undamaged) kids home. Quite a show.

Off to urgent care. "Has Andrew been here before?" "Uh...Yes, two days ago. "

The urgent care wait was going to be longer this trip. Grandma was called in to take Bethany home.

More running down the hallways, and playing with the drinking fountain (They both love all things water.) This doctor went right for the glue option; no decisions to make.

Good thing we had just had our portraits taken Saturday morning...before this all started. Not that he was wound-free at the time, just a less gruesome wound.

On the plus side, Andrew appears to be less grumpy in general, the past few days. Must be feeling better now; gaping wounds aside.

Bethany is mostly injury free.
